About the Department

Public Administration as a discipline began its journey in association with Economics at the University of Rajasthan in the year 1957 as Department of Economics and Public Administration. In 1965, an independent Department of PublicAdministration was established by carving out from the economics discipline in the school of social sciences. Since its inception, the Department in the University of Rajasthan has significant faculty strength, good infrastructure facilities and rich in academic potential, The Department was sanctioned Special Assistance Programme (SAP) by University Grants Commission in 2008. Significant academic contribution by our faculty has brought rewards in achieving Fulbright, Indo-Canada Shastri and Commonwealth Fellowships. It is a matter of pride that the faculty of the department was awarded a patent for the concept of Governometrics. Commemorating the Golden Jubilee year of its establishment during academic session 2015-16, the department organized lecture series delivered by distinguished academicians, scholars and administrators. During this session, a syllabi review workshop was conducted to review the curriculum. Notable academic scholars attended and added valuable inputs to our educational programme. Golden Jubilee year took initiative to inculcate competitive spirit among the students by conducting debates on socially relevant topics, essay competition and extra-curricular activities. The department also hosted two International seminars in the year 2017 and 2018 attended by scholars from within and abroad. In the begning of the year 2022 the department successfully organised a Grand National Seminar on the theme "Public Policy, Politics and Governance in India in the Post Pandemic Era " attended by scholars, intellectuals, politicians and Administrators. Several of our students attained dizzy heights by becoming academicians, administrators and researchers, bringing laurels to the department. A few of them were associated to build their career in politics investing faith in democratic mechanism. The Department is running M.A., Ph.D. Programmes.
